Senator Amy Klobuchar

Working for the People of Minnesota

Featured Minnesota Foods

Every Thursday when the Senate is session, I invite the entire state of Minnesota to join me for coffee and featured foods from Minnesota, including one of my favorites, Potica, from the Iron Range. For the inauguration week Open House, we'll have several foods from all over Minnesota. Below are just some of the many foods we will be serving. Click on the points of the map below to see where all of the food is from.

Potica, Iron Range

Potica is a traditional Slovenian pastry from the Iron Range. This is a pastry treat featuring a sweet nut paste on the inside. Potica is served at all Klobuchar family gatherings, dating back several generations.

Spam Puffs, Austin

Flavored Butters, Mahnomen

The all-natural flavored butters and jams are from a 60-year-old family farm in Mahnomen. Sandy Kaiser, mother of five and owner and operator of the farm, runs "Off the Farm," a business that sells all-natural products ranging from meats and eggs to butter and ice cream syrups.

Chippers are potato chips dipped in chocolate. They come from Widman's Candy Company in Crookston.

Rosettes, Starbuck

Rosettes are a delicate fried cookie made using a heated iron that is dipped in batter and then immersed in hot oil to create a crisp shell. The Pastry Shoppe's owner, Larry Kittelson, is a fourth-generation Scandinavian resident and was the baker in 1983 of the world's largest lefse, as documented by the Schibstad Norwegian Book of Records.
